"Uniting everywhere", creating a political "earthquake" in Nice... For its return, the Côte d'Azur Communist Party is positioning itself as the unifying force of the left

"A central role" is what the Communist Party intends to play in the Alpes-Maritimes ahead of the municipal elections. For its political comeback, held late Saturday, August 30, on the "popular" Place Saint-Roch in Nice, the PCF 06 hammered it home: in 2026, there's no question of just playing a supporting role.
In front of nearly a hundred people, Julien Picot, departmental secretary, presented the party as a unifier of the left in the face of "a reactionary right that is ashamed of nothing" . "In Nice, Cannes, Le Cannet, Antibes, Grasse, Menton, Contes, La Trinité, Cagnes, Saint-Laurent, Gattières, Vence, Saorge, Biot, Mougins, the PCF plays a role in the construction of rallying lists" , supported this forty-year-old financial manager, elected head of the local branch of the party in 2023 .
In Contes, the last communist town hall with Touët-de-l'Escarène, Francis Tujague is leaving again. In Cagnes, Cédric Garoyan, also a PCF member , is heading a united left-wing list ... going as far as the Insoumis. "Let's hope it lasts!" smiles the man in question, hoping to arbitrate the duel looming between the outgoing Louis Nègre and the RN deputy Bryan Masson, by banking on a "truly ecological and humanist" program, he explains.
Create the political "earthquake" in NiceAt the center of this back-to-school season, the mother of all battles is Nice. "The city is facing a historic moment. Here, two right-wing parties will clash: the reactionary Christian Estrosi and the extreme Éric Ciotti, the same project with two ways of communicating it. For the people of Nice, this is a golden opportunity for the left to finally regain power! A political earthquake, within our reach," says Julien Picot, who believes in a three-way contest in the second round. And he's not alone.
This Saturday, the communists launched the battle surrounded by the ecologists and socialists of Nice. A united list prepared step by step for several months. "In Nice, the PCF has a long history [at the Liberation, the communist from Drapois Virgile Barel was mayor, Editor's note]. For two years, we have been working constructively together. Like the [couple of resistance fighters, Editor's note]. With the PCF, the socialists, we have also produced , " rejoiced the ecologist Juliette Chesnel-Leroux. "What a beautiful image of the left we offer! And we are not leaving to save a few seats but to win, because it is possible," declared the first of the Nice socialists, Patrick Allemand.
And so what if, in the Côte d'Azur capital, the sacred union is currently taking place without La France Insoumise . "We've been working on the union since January. They've decided to leave it, but meetings still need to take place. What we want is to talk about people's daily lives: the right to housing, purchasing power, free transport... We have to put ego battles aside," maintains Julien Picot.
